"From sofa to start line" by Mike Hare tells the story of one man's acceptance of a second chance at life. In two years he went from couch potato to marathon runner shedding 15 stones along the way. Mike Hare recalls a series of chance remarks and his naively self set challenges with humility and humour. This is a great read for anyone and a must for any bookshelf. A proportion from every book sold is donated to the Prostate Cancer Charity.

As a health professional who sees the effects of obesity first hand on a daily basis, Mike's book is a stunning testimony to what can be achieved when committed to the cause. Mike's honest account of his battles with tablets and their side effects, and the health benefits of running make a gripping read. I dare anyone to read it and not be inspired.
Well done Mike.

What can I say about 'From the sofa to the start line' it evoked so many emotions and left me with many unanswered questions. From the first page I began to question my own weight loss journey, although I have lost nearly 11stone I felt far from as successful as Mike was. On the first reading he made it almost pain free. The jealousy I felt was all consuming.I felt that he really didn't have a true idea of how hard a journey weight loss was. He had breezed through his loss with very little effort at all and had been one of the 'lucky' ones who lose weight with very little effort.
As I knew Mike my conscience was telling me that I was being hard on him and that really he had worked damm hard to lose the weight. I then re read the book and read it with open eyes and an open non judgemental mind. I soon realised that although Mike's journey had been successful and quick it wasn't without hard work.It was all his own doing, no drugs no surgery just good old fashioned plain hard work and sacrifices - or should I say readjustments to a bad diet and lifestyle. His hard work and determination meant that he would be successful.
I have realised that my journey has been longer and more fraught due to a lack of commitment on my part and that with determination and will power I can achieve what ever I need to achieve. Mike has inspired me, through being frank and honest about his own journey, to seriously look at my diet and lifestyle. To question my determination when faced with something I percieve to be difficult and to realise that the only person who can enable me to lose weight is myself. I have felt encouraged to do things I would never of dreamed of doing - like the Great North Run and more importantly I know that I can achieve anything I work for. I can wish for a quick fix and dream of waking up in the morning size 10 with no hard work but this is unrealistic.
Thank you Mike........you continue to be my inspiration, the book has travelled all the way to Jordan to keep me on the straight and narrow!

This is the most inspirational book I have every read and proves that anyone with enough determination and effort can change their life for the better. Mike was on the slippery slope to his grave due to his increasing size when a car crash spurred him into action. What followed is nothing short of amazing. His âcan doâ attitude has not only saved his life but has also inspired many others to take control of their own lives. The book is a real page turner which I found impossible to put down. A must read.

This is a very inspirational book. I lost 3.5 stone when I took up running last year, but this is a drop in the ocean compared to Mike's achievement.
This is the story of one man's fight against the odds. It is a tale of tenacity and the rewards of going the distance. I felt like Mike was sitting next to me telling me about his journey. He shows us how important a support network is in helping us to achieve our dreams. His friends and family, and their dedication to him and his cause, shine through.
A great read, if you are a runner, or are thinking about joining the rest of us endorphin seekers!

Having taken up running about a year ago a copy of this book fell on my desk recently and gave me a good excuse to prize me away from my novel i had been trying to finish for several months. Couldn't put the book down and managed to complete it in just a few day. Its a really great book to read and very inspirational. It makes a pleasant change to what you typically find as its not focused around a celebrity (sorry mike your not quite a celeb yet ;-) ). I'd recommend the book to so many people as even if running isn't your thing it is about seeing how someone who has a goal can overcome so much to get there.
Keep running, keep spreading the message of fitness and I'm hoping that with this book you can inspire many others to follow in your footsteps.

This is a great book on so many levels. Itâs motivational, inspiring and provides an insight to what a nice guy Mr T!SM and different life he now leads as half the man he was !
It also gets you some not so pleasant looks from âover weightâ folk on the tube, who seem to think you are having a go at them !
